00:00- INTRO* Today let’s explore the magnificent Hasedera Temple in the Kanagawa prefecture. So join me only on the ETA.
00:43- Entrance to the Hasedera Temple.
00:49- Right by the entrance, you can put incense sticks to purify yourself.
01:13- By the main entrance, which is by the way the 4th largest gate in Kamakura, you will see a symbolic red lantern.
01:20- To enter this Japanese Buddhist Temple pay the admission fee of Y400 or ~$3.83 USD/person.
01:32- Koi pond with the Koi fish over a foot in length next to the Buddha’s footsteps.
02:11- Hasedera map territory.
02:23- At the top, you will see the Jizo Bodhi-sattva statues as well as the Water pouring Jizo which is known as the Mizukake Jizo. Pour water on the Mizukake Jizo in order to clear and purify your mind.
03:17- Next to the Jizo-do Hall, you will see 1,000 of these little Jizo statues known as the Sentai Jizo or a Thousand Jizo. They are said to help dead souls of born and unborn children reach heaven and protect them.
03:42- Kannon who is the Goddess of Mercy. You can pray by putting some money into this Saisen (賽銭) box. You can throw bills but it is more common to throw coins. By doing so, the gods and deities will listen and answer your prayers.
04:12- Hase Temple’s most centralized 7 buildings which were built on a Mount Kamakura during the 8th century in the year of 736 AD.
04:30- This main building is the Kannon-Do Hall with a 29.5 foot or a 9-meter tall, 11-headed wooden Goddess of Mercy Kannon herself.
04:45- Observation deck with views of Kamakura and the Yuigahama Beach.
05:06- This is Kyozo – a storage hall for Buddhist scriptures. Inside, there is a rotary bookshelf known as Rinzo which holds those scriptures.
05:21- When Rinzo is rotated on the 18th of every month, it is said to give you virtue.
06:13- Nagomi Jizo Statues.
06:42- Prospect Path.
07:48- Kanon Museum with the Sho-Kannon Bosatsu statue standing outside. Made from bronze, she is one of the most beloved deities. This statue, which was made by the Nagasakan sculptor Seibou Kitamura is enshrined here as a symbol of peace.
08:11- Inside this Kannon-Do Hall I was unable to film the 29.5 foot 11-headed Kannon statue (十一面観音) due to the cameras policies.
08:19- Binzuru-Sonjya is said to heal those parts of your body which you touch on this statue.
08:51- Amida-Do Hall (阿弥陀堂) with the 9 foot or 2.8 meters high Amida Nyorai (阿弥陀如来) statue inside.

09:54- Shoro Bell Fry – cast in the 13th century it is the 3rd oldest in Kamakura and one of the more ancient on the Honshu Island in the Kanto region.
10:17- Inari-Sha or Kakigara-Inari. Here you can see hanging oyster-shells. Through these shells, this shrine receives divine guidance from the Kannon.
11:07- For Y300 or ~$3 you can buy an oyster shell, write your wish and hang it.
12:22- Benten-kutsu cave entrance is dedicated to hundreds of different gods and tiny Benten sculptures.
13:05- A Japanese Buddhist Kobo Daishi spent time in seclusion here.
13:53- Hono-Benzaiten statues is where you can pray and write a wish on one of the statues as an offering. And don’t forget to include your name or a wish might not come true.
15:24- On these Ema tablets you write your wishes or prayers and hang them up where the spirits or gods kami are believed to receive them. Eventually Ema are ritually burned at special ceremony events symbolizing liberation of your wish.
17:24- Shoin Hall. The garden is the rock garden known as Kare-san-sui which represents streams and flow of water with rocks.
18:30- This is Kume Masao who was a writer, a poet and a Kamakura Literati.
